4 Tips to Create The Healthiest Career In The World.

What is a Healthy Career? First, let’s talk about the difference between a job + a career. The ABCs of a job begin with a single-minded goal - secure a go-to for your financial obligations. Getting a job will solve your ‘right-now need’ even when the selection may not top your dream career bucket list. That’s okay. Satisfy the immediate need first.

Your initial goal shakes hands with the largest physical reward you’ll receive - a paycheck. It will supply your demand but carry a narrow focus point so let’s not confuse immediate satisfaction with a deeper experience.

If you’re looking to analyze your employer’s benefits and their motives, I believe you’re considering a meaningful career. A job may give you a peak into team fulfillment but discovering the true win/win of meaningful work or the impact of your employers competitive earnings program is best answered when you assess what career industry pairs with your abilities. Now it becomes personal. You - the unique person - view employer responses to leveraging work responsibility with a sharper eye.

You accept a job, but launch out to create a career. Career exploration + discovery pivots give you enjoyment (preferably long-term).  A career search positions you for authenticity. You now look for unique problems to solve + more creative ways to offer your skills + abilities. I believe at this turning point, you prefer being called a ‘career professional’ rather than a ‘job professional’.

Career sectors are moving at warp speed + will not return to the original “before COVID-19” structure, Creativity + new eras are borne out of crisis. It’s time to take what you know to be true in your industry today + create your career analyzing the real-time lessons you’re learning.

Look into secondment opportunities that can grow your career + give you new working relationships within or outside your present employer. If work can be managed effectively + business interests are professionally protected, secondments can become a healthy way to grow your career.

Play a healthier “game of telephone”

It’s important for you to re-integrate phone calling back into your work routine communication with your team + colleagues. Don’t let the health of your career become overrun with visual fatigue, eye strain + eye strain headaches.  The redesigned labor force can become stressed trying to maintain a consistent visually-prepared WFH demeanor while managing personal home interactions. The brain gets exhausted and besieged by the massive amounts of stimuli a video-conference can introduce. Don’t feel antiquated by using a timeless sensory technique to maintain your holistic health. Keep phone conferencing in your pocket and still get the job done.

Too much uninterrupted time in front of your device screen can prove unhealthy.  Instead, use the communication change to upgrade your listening skills. Move to a less distracted place + visualize or jot notes on what you hear. Observe your tone, diction + re-experience the cadence of your coworker’s voice.

When you need to use video conferencing, limit the lighting on your screen. If possible, use the HDMI input for looking at a larger screen. Also allow time between the work calls to stretch your fingers or neck + take a 15 minute break to grab an apple or yogurt. And don’t forget to use the "20/20/20" rule: Every 20 minutes, shift your eyes to look at an object at least 20 feet away, for at least 20 seconds.

After calmly identifying your needs then create a Part II outline that slowly incorporates wants back on your list. Keep your goals list healthy, authentic + reasonably tangible.
