The Single Most Important Question for Your Destiny

Are you where you need to be ?

I know this time can shake your beliefs and make you wonder if you’ve lost your sense of direction. But take heart, the transition is giving you time to settle some doubts about yourself that need to be dealt with.

In this season, the work you desire is a puzzle to the bigger picture of hope and healing for others. What is the work you’re doing right now. Is it solving the pain of others? Is it causing a team to press higher (finally) for the greater good? Is it quenching the thirst of a generation that knows stockpiling material gain won’t offer the peace that’s needed to bring sustainable stewardship? 

I keep seeing the word direction. Are you getting clarity for your next quality step? Professionally, have you developed your strategic vision with a sound plan to encourage taking that next step? Or is your compass stuck and you’ve lost the belief that you can reset your direction during this transition? 

I’ve had my share of wondering over these past pandemic months. It’s given me an enormous opportunity to reevaluate my sense of east, west, north, and south. I realized this moment being given right now could give me the time I needed to check my sense of direction. I felt like a sailor unrolling her map to check whether she was on the right course. The choppy months gave me a moment to reevaluate and determine if a course correction was needed. I must admit, there were potential stumbling blocks that could’ve sank the ship if I hadn’t stopped to brush off the doubts trying to accumulate. 

You are much stronger than you think. Yes, there are things you once considered were important but now you realize those distractions are no longer a pressing issue. Instead, your focus is becoming sharper and you only want to do what matters. What matters is what’s meaningful. The word “meaning” even sounds different now. Rehearse it. It lingers when you say it...

Transitions can catch you unaware if you’re not consistently checking your map, your strategic vision. It’s so important to have a long-term vision and review it continuously so you don’t get shipwrecked.  It’s even more crucial to realize you won’t know how strong your plan is until the transition begins to form. The emergence of a new pattern is forming and you have the opportunity to discern how you will manage its course for your destiny. 

Your decisive conduct will move you from one place to another. If you need to, turn and create the path to get you from one course to another. Reposition your direction to allow the next quality step to see smoother seas and a fruitful landing on your career horizon.
